Kyu Shin Kwai is a Martial Arts Club
We are a friendly amatuer club originally formed in 2010 in
association with Bushido-Zazen.
We specialise in Judo, JiuJitsu, Karate, Iado
(sword) and Kobudo (weapons) under 4th Dan Sensei Mark Holland.>
The club is open to all ages especially the young at heart!
Our club name Kyu Shin Kwai which means "harmony of mind and body" which reflects our aims and values when we train.
We are situated in Deal 8 miles north of Dover in the UK and we are affiliated with a number of clubs around the country all of which are listed on the Bushido Zazen website.
JuJitsu (Joo Jit Soo)
This form of defence originated because it was likely a Samurai could be disarmed in battle.
It is the original form of Japanese unarmed combat using wrist locks, punches, kicks, strangles, holds and throws to disable an attacker.
There are many different branches of JuJitsu including Aiki Jitsu and Atemi JuJitsu for instance.
Other forms of self-defence like Judo and Karate have refined and evolved the basic rudiments from Ju Jitsu.
For a fuller explanation and history go to the Wikipedia site on JuJitsu.
Our training incorporates and uses the refinements and ideas of Judo and Karate to improve overall techniques.

Iaido (eye-ee-do)
The art of using the sword or katana.
Iai-jutsu, the combined technique of drawing the sword, and in the draw attacking the opponent, has historically been considered a special case of Japanese sword-handling (Kenjutsu).
In this course you will learn how to use the Japanese traditional sword called a Katana and develop control, technique and customs of an ancient tradition stretching back 100's of years.
Judo (Joo Doh)
Judo is the art of overcoming your opponent's balance to effect control of your opponent.
Although it has developed from the ideas of Ju-Jitsu it has become a form of self-defence and sport in its own right.
In our club you will learn to develop confidence, co-ordination, agility and techniques to overcome an assailant using their strength and balance.
Not only will you learn proven techniques you will also have the opportunity to attend competitions and master classes throughout the country and in Europe.
We are proud of our tradition in the club fostering many competition winners over the years so you can be confident you are being taught well.

Karate
Every one has heard of Karate!
Karate means "the empty hand", or more specifically,"the unarmed hand without a weapon".
Karate is most likely a mix of a Chinese fighting art brought to Okinawa by merchants and sailors from Fujian Province, with Okinawan martial art. The Okinawans called the style "te", hand.
Our club studies Shotokan Karate style which is taught by enthusiastic young and committed teachers on Friday evenings.
You will be taught how to defend yourself, learning how to strike with kicks and hands as well as improving balance and your athletic agility.
